Anchor Inn

The Anchor Inn was situated on Booths Hill Road.

I was the last landlord of The Anchor Inn, it was closed in 2001 when Japanese investment bank, Nomura sold some of the former Greenhall's pub estate that it had bought when Greenhall's stopped managing pubs and became brewers, only. Sadly, The Anchor - a 400 year old former tollgate house - was one of the casualties. My then partner and I received 24 hours' notice of closure so we hurriedly arranged a farewell night, which was well attended.
The pub was subsequently demolished and houses built on its grounds. The two hand pull beer engines are, as far as I know, still in use in St Helen's Rugby Club, as I gave them to a friend who had connections with the club and they were looking for engines.
