Ring O'Bells

The Ring O'Bells was situated on Church Street. This pub was present by 1829 when the publican was John Gratrix. Emily Burgess, wife of Harry Burgess, Sheffield Wednesday, Chelsea and England international footballer was the last publican here until closure in 1960. It was demolished, along with the gas works next door, plus the cottages and Bradley’s chip shop, originally the Vine Inn, to make way for a bus station.

The pub was run by the Price family from c1905 when Harry Price, a miner was publican, to at least 1948 when his son Alan Price, aged 33, died there of  'cardiac syncope'.
