Jolly Colliers

The Jolly Colliers was situated on Cotmanhay Road. This pub was demolished c.2008. Known as The Pickled Newt at time of closure. The publican in 1935 was Thomas Disney, an ex-miner from West Hallam.

I was a mod in the 1960s and was a regular at the Ammadon (not too sure of the spelling) which was one of a very few discos in the area at the time - from 1965 to 1967. It was held in the upstairs room at the pub and attracted a dedicated crowd dancing to Motown, Stax and some very obscure soul music labels.
