Man Of Kent

The Man Of Kent was situated at 1 Sandy Lane. This pub has now been demolished and replaced by the housing in the above photo.
The Man Of Kent had a vibrant folk club that used to meet weekly (every Saturday evening, I believe) upstairs. ‘Members’ of the club (there was no official membership) would take turns to sing songs and guest musicians would be invited along. I remember that John Smedley (later organiser of the Sevenoaks Summer Festival) was very involved with the folk scene at the pub and I used to go along with one of his sons, Kevin. It’s a tragedy that the Man of Kent is no more!
