My grandparents managed this pub for many years. One of my earliest memory was of standing on a bar stool -in the dark while my grandfather held me and we looked down on the blazing Manchester during WW11.
I also remember the evening of my Uncle and Aunts wedding in 1939. The best man was killed two years later in the bomber raids over Germany.
My grandfather had a pigeon coop at the back and up some concrete stairs. I remember sitting on the wall at the back watching the Italian prisoners of war being marched along to the bath house? for their once weekly ablutions.
At the side of the building at that time were concrete cylindrical blocks with small holes in the centre large enough to put a rifle through.
Saturday night was sing song night with a piano in the lounge. Their most famous visitors were the ink spots who had a caravan parked somewhere around and dropped in but declined to sing. There was a large club house upstairs. The cellar had glass piping up to the bar which had all to be cleaned regularly to keep the beer fresh.

June Carey 1992/1997 Glenn & I tenanted the Star Inn and have great memories of friends and family with a fantastic crowd of customers old and new. We extended the old cottage into the public area and opened the 45 seater restaurant, at the same time November-December’92 the whole ground floor was completely refurbished and who remembers the little room up to the back corner. Thanks to all our brilliant staff and guests. Would love the Star Inn sign on the side.
