Salisbury Arms

The Salisbury Arms was situated on Oakham Road, closing in the 1980s. This pub was known as The Tilton Hilton (Tilton being a nearby village) as it was extremely basic! One room, which was really the front room of a farmhouse, with a rudimentary bar. Cigarettes were sold from an old biscuit tin behind the counter. The Ladies was the bathroom upstairs, Gents was outside in the dark. Surprisingly busy given that it was in the middle of nowhere. Latterly, sold and developed into an unrecognisable eatery which enjoyed brief success, but now a private house.

My father got an electric shock switching on a lamp, he returned the next day to rewire it. Whenever you went in the 'crowd' had just left!
