The Queens was situated on Queen Street. Once the Liberal Club it was built in 1893 (Kelly’s 1905, hon. Sec. William H Cross). Later the ‘New Queens Club’ was members only until summer 2005 when it opened its doors to the wider public as a ‘pub’ and became known simply as ‘Queens’. Under new management in 2013, the Queens closed for the last time on 30th May 2016. Remaining vacant, plans were put forward by Cre8ivity Ark social enterprise in 2020 to turn it into a community centre.
