Chapmans Arms

The Chapmans Hotel was situated on Central Market. This pub was built in the 1850s and was known locally as The Buccaneer.

In 1857 the owner and landlord was Nathaniel Chapman, until around 1877 when Joseph Chapman took over. In 1864 Elizabeth Hailstone was charged with robbing the till of Mr. Chapman's dram shop of 9s 6d, and in 1880 Henry Hodson pleaded guilty of being drunk and riotous at Chapmans Hotel. The building was eventually demolished.
