The publican of the Dukes Head in 1919 was Benjamin Fanthorpe.
The landlord of the Duke's Head in 1871 was a Joseph Butler, aged 36, one of my ancestors. He disappeared without trace sometime after on a day trip to Boston!

My Great-Grandfather, John Clark b. 1830 left school at 13.  His first job, circa 1843, was as Boot Boy, wage 1.00 per Year. (!), at the Duke's Head.  The innkeeper was one John Holmes.
