The Marquee was situated at 13 Prebend
Street. The site of the Marquee was previously a WW2 bombsite. Part of the
area was developed as a small scout hut built with monies raised by local
subscription which itself was demolished in the late Sixties to make way for
a modern theme pub called 'The Giles' named as a tribute to Islington born
cartoonist Ron 'Carl' Giles'. The inside was decorated with framed cartoons
of his well-known 'Daily Express' characters. Renamed the Marquee it was
soon demolished to make way for residential use. |
