The Kings Arms was situated at 132 Peckham Rye.
The original pub was destroyed in an air raid in 1941. Rebuilt in 1957, it
closed in the late 1990s and is now in residential use. Also known as
the Kings On The Rye. |

The Kings Arms was built on the site of a
17th century pub that was destroyed by a direct hit during the Blitz. The
bomb smashed through the pub and exploded in the cellar, which was being
used as an air-raid shelter, killing 11 people. Footsteps have been heard,
objects moved, dogs are petrified and voices singing wartime songs
accompanied by a piano have been heard. A female apparition has been seen,
who is thought to be one of the regulars killed on that fateful night. |
