Who'd A Thought It

The Who'd A Thought It was situated at 7 Timbercroft Lane. This pub closed on 1 July 2026. A pub since 1845, and 'listed locally' so not as strong protection as national listing, a fourth planning application (in five years) for conversion to residential properties has been made. Previous applications had been rejected from as far back as 2021, ranging from total demolition to building houses/flats adjacent to or incorporating the original building or keeping the facade.

Locally known as one of the 'common idlers', five pubs in the area, immortalised in a ditty:
“The Star which doesn’t shine in the sky,
the Woodman who doesn’t cut down trees,
the Ship that cannot sail the seas,
the Mill which doesn’t grind corn,
and Who’d a Thought It!"

A former owner, Jock Craib, was Chair of 'Woolwich' Arsenal when they played in Plumstead, before moving to Highbury.
