Rose & Crown, West Norwood, SE27, London

The Rose & Crown was situated on Crown Lane. This pub closed in 2009.

Just to let you know that, despite a residents’ campaign against change of use, the former Rose and Crown pub in West Norwood is to be converted to a Tesco store. Tesco recently succeeded in a set of planning applications associated with minor alterations to the building. However, residents won a concession that Tesco must submit its delivery plan to the council for approval and a letter will be sent from the planning committee to the Department for Communities and Local Government deploring the 1995 law which allows a change of use from a pub to a shop without planning permission.

I supported the residents at planning committee in my capacity as the local Lambeth councillor for Knight’s Hill ward where the pub is located, although I also conveyed the views of a large minority of residents who wanted the Tesco.
