Portland Arms

The Portland Arms was situated at 21 Albert Street. This is a grade-II listed building.

Back in the 1970s my parents went to look at this pub with a view of taking over the tenancy. It was a Mansfield's house then and a very busy pub. In those days breweries had waiting lists for tenants. When you went in the front door you went down a few steps as the pub floors were lower than the pavement. I'm surprised that it closed because it was always packed.
