Black Boy

The Black Boy was situated on Long Row. This was a traditional coaching inn, designed by Watson Fothergill. It served the very centre of the city. Standing head and shoulders above the surrounding buildings, it was an explosion of decoration, feature windows, towers and fairytale embellishments, as was Fothergillís style. Closed and demolished in the 1970s.
When I fell ( heavily pregnant ) through my hall floor, the floor boards were replaced by oak boards from The Black Boy. I believe they were from the bar and were so hard that even an industrial sander would not touch them!
Carol Dunn (December 2018)
