The Royal Marine was situated on Silver Street.

My parents Joan & Cliff Manning ran the pub from 1954 to it closed in the late 70’s or mid 80’s, a sham that it closed as historical records show the pub in 1650 era. The pub was a hotel to many a traveler reaching Taunton by coach & horses, the stables were in a separate building made of Cobb walling. The entrance had 2 shaped granite stones, one on either side, this was a gauge marker to ensure that the cartridges could enter safely under the building & along to the stables.
