The Horseshoe Inn was situated on Comphurst Lane. The building was built in 1953 and decorated in mock Tudor style externally and internally and is on the A271 south of Herstmonceux. In March 1981 change of use to a nursing home was refused and in July 2019 planning to demolish it was withdrawn. Prior to this in May 2019 a sales brochure was offering the 5,685 sq.m. building on a 1.4 acre site for sale at £1.5m. April 2021 it was reported the building was to be demolished in the May but it was still standing in Googles September street view. Planning, with conditions, was approved in July 2021 for provision of what was described as ‘erection of a new public house’ with letting rooms and landscaping in the car park.

Many years ago, a friend, our girlfriends and I, all decked out in our " Sunday best" " (black shawl collared suits white shirts, bow ties etc.) were having a drink in the bar. We were approached by a member of staff, who very politely asked if we were 'members of the band' ! We just as politely denied it, and the gentleman apologised, leaving us to our drinks. LOL Funny, the little things we remember years later.
