The Jolly Butcher was situated at 15 High Street. This pub opened in 1757 and closed in 1985. It is now in retail use.

Back in 75/76 my friend and I used to ride mopeds and rode from my home in Chiseldon to the Jolly Butcher for thee most wonderful draft pint of Mackesons stout, then we rode out to the Bell at Overton for a hot pasty from the then modern pie server that sat on the bar serving pasties and pies..we thought this was wonderful. Great times never to be the same ever again.
