The Wroughton

The Wroughton was situated on High Street. This pub was demolished in the 1990s and has now been converted to the block of four flats in the above photo. Other residential accommodation known as Ely Court is now built on the garden and paddock. Formerly The Ely Inn, a Whitbread and previously Stroud Brewery (West Country Ales) house. The name referred to a famous racehorse from the 1860s trained in the village, and was shown on the sign.
