Earl Gray

The Earl Gray is now used as a private house. This pub was present by 1840 when the publican was Margaret Hardy, a shopkeeper.

We lived in the ‘Earl De Gray’ (Note A not E. I was told as it was a name not a colour it was spelt with an A, although the present owners have put up a name plaque using an E.) It had been closed for many years before we moved into the house but the stables and out-buildings were still there and the rings in the wall (and are still there) for tying up horses. Other than that, I can’t tell you any more details, my Father may have known, but he passed away in 2009.
