The Smiths Dock Inn was situated on Skippers Lane. The pub suffered a severe fire to external garden furniture in October 2021, when the pub was closed for refurbishment following closure during covid. The fire (believed to be arson) led to total closure. An application for demolition and building 12 houses and 16 flats was rejected by councillors in December 2024, following 400 objections and went to appeal. The appeal has been turned down at Government level partly through issues of "nutrient neutrality". Local councillors wanted it to become a community hub.
