The Timber Top was situated at 334 Shirecliffe Road. This innovative building opened in 1970, having taken about 9.5 weeks to build. It was often frequented by students from nearby Shirecliffe College (which opened in 1968 and closed in 1998). The pub closed c 2015/6 following problems with drugs, a knifing and finally a shooting. The car park now operating as a car wash.
