The Blackbird opened in the 1950s and closed in 2021.  The premises reopened in September 2021 as a restaurant named Renaissant which served a bespoke seven-course meal rather than an a-la-carte menu. It ceased trading in mid-2022 and was boarded up in October that year, although attempts were made to let it as a free-of-tie pub. As of June 2024, it is subject to a planning application for conversion to housing.

Planning permission has been granted for the change of use to a single residential dwelling after an appeal to the Planning Inspectorate.
