Bell Hotel

The Bell Hotel was situated on The Strand (originally The Quay). This started started off as The Bellerophen, after the ship that brought Napoleon to Plymouth in 1815 after Waterloo. No doubt this was shortened by locals because it became The Bell Inn, later in the century becoming Bell Hotel at the end of it after an extensive rebuild. Present by 1841 when the publican was John Payne.
