White Thorn Inn

The current White Thorn Inn was built in 1930 on the site of a shed, however prior to this, the old White Thorn Inn was further down the road and is now used as a private residence.

I recall in 1970 when I was 11 we moved to Shaugh Prior. The Old White Thorn is next to the new one which was built in 1930. The building next to the church steps is a cottage built to house the monks who were building the church. In Devon many of these became 'church house Inns' as we see at the village of Rattery today. So it is possible that this building beside the church steps was the first 'Inn' of Shaugh? The Old White Thorn building across the road was all one building in 1970. It is now divided into 3 cottages, sometime in 1980's.
