The next most recent closure was the Fisherman’s Arms (closed 1996) on the Lower Putton Lane in Chickerell, now demolished with the area redeveloped for housing. The Fisherman’s Arms enjoyed a good reputation for pub meals during its latter years, at a time when dining in a pub was less commonplace than today. (I have very happy memories of family time here when I was very much younger, as The Fisherman’s was in walking distance from home – Ed). I am old enough to have had a drink in both of these more recent lost pubs but there is no one alive who has drunk in the remaining three.
