Blue Anchor

The Blue Anchor was situated on Ramshill. This Tamplins pub was sold to Friary in 1955 and closed in the 1980s. Now in residential use.
We lived here for six months in 1957 on long leave from Tanganyika.

his was with Friary Ales until 1978 when Churcherís College (local independent school) purchased the property and turned it into three flats for staff. When the school stopped doing boarding in 1998 the property became mostly derelict and was then put on the market in 2000 when I purchased it on September 15th. I spent about 3 years converting it into a family home, but was always aware of the pub link, as I had been at the school in the seventies when it was sold to them. The rear of the property is about 250 years old and the front is about 160 years old.
