The Black Swan was situated at 65 High Street. This pub
was present by 1828 when the publican was Richard Higgs. closed in the early 1930s. It
was demolished in the 1930s with a retail unit, Black Swan House,
built on the site. The inn was made famous when Sherlock Holmes stayed there
in the “The Copper Beeches”, published 1892. |
