The Nelson

The Nelson, Oxford

Date of photo: 2014

The Nelson was situated on Between Towns Road. This pub occupies a triangle of land in the corner of Cowley Centre, given to the brewery in order to allow an earlier version of The Nelson to close. This later pub closed in 2014.

Review from tantallon.org.uk:
Guinness Stout £2.16
Glenfiddich Whisky £1.67 (21.viii.1998)

I expected it to be full of youths with unsatisfactory facial hair playing pool, but the pool tables are all hidden out behind the bar. Instead I found a slightly varied collection of greasy-haired locals, and a collection of televisions showing BBC1.
No real ale on tap. I went for the whisky, which was alright, but it doesn't need much maintenance. Friday nights are reasonably quiet: it's Saturday nights that are the ear-defying discos in here. (21.viii.1998)
