Duke Of Argyle

Duke Of Argyle, Cambridge

The Duke Of Argyle was situated at 90 Argyle Street, closing in 1999. This pub has now been demolished and redeveloped as housing.
From 1979-1990, The landlord and landlady was Ray & Jean Patton, with son Ray, and daughter’s Jeannette, Sally and others. The pub was made open plan in the mid-eighties, and the front door then lined up perfectly with my front door (65 Argyle Street). The left hand bar had a notorious wonky floor, useful for tipping the pool table if you were in the know.
Rumour had it that the car park appeared as the result of a Luftwaffe raid, as were a few other gaps in the terraced housing of the area around the railway yards.
