The Grasshopper

The Grasshopper, Cambridge

The Grasshopper was situated at 2 Brookfields, Mill Road. This pub was replaced by a student hostel around the year 2000.

I lived on Mill Rd between 1986 & 1989. The Grasshopper was a favoured pub amongst the Irish construction workers, many of whom who were employed rebuilding Cambridge at the time. Thursday night was particularly popular as it coincided with payday. The landlord kept a good jukebox with the then popular Irish musicians, such as Christy Moore, Clannad and The Hothouse Flowers on the playlist.
The pub also used to sell ‘takeout’; draught pints decanted into Tetra-Pak cartons that were available between the last orders bell and closing time.
