Spade & Beckett

Spade & Beckett, Cambridge

The Spade & Beckett was situated on Thompsons Lane. This pub was present from 1850 until around 1990 at least.  Formerly tied to the Thompson’s Lane Brewery, it is now in use as a restaurant. Previously known as The George & Dragon.

It was still open in 1996 when I had a drink there while my son went for an interview at a college. Nice location on Jesus Green, but I was the only customer and they had no bitter on tap, only lager - they had run out. I told the barman I had never known a pub to have no bitter before, and he said he hadn't either.
The address is given here as Thompsons Lane, and it says that on an street sign on the wall, but the street today is called Richmond Terrace and it is at the corner with Park Parade. Thompsons Lane is nearby so perhaps it has been shortened.
