From Peterborough Heritage:
The Black Bull is a 19th century historic pub that is now a dwelling. It is an important asset for Deeping Gate’s social and economic history and adds character to the townscape.
Description: The building is constructed of grey ashlar blocks with larger ashlar block quoining. The dwelling has a ceramic pantile gabled roof with ashlar block chimneys at either end, each stack has two pots. There are modern brick extensions to rear from the western and northern elevations, which have been rendered post 2009. The extensions have similar ceramic pantile roofs. The building has a court to the rear with a drive connecting to the road along the northern side of the elevation. Deeping St. James Road forms the eastern boundary of the property. The eastern double-fronted elevation has a symmetrical arrangement with a central door and flanking windows. The door has six panels with an over-light above. It has a segmented ashlar block lintel. It is flanked by eight-over-eight sash windows either side with ashlar block lintels and sills. The two windows are mirrored on the first floor without the ashlar lintels as they sit directly beneath the eaves of the roof. On the northern gable end to the east is a small four-pane fixed window. The brick extensions with the lean-to roof protruding from the northern elevation has an east facing sunken door. This is likely the access to the pub’s beer cellar.
Notes: Historic pub now dwelling. Historic pub since 1823. Stone with end chimney stacks. Central door with name above door. Cellar still to side.
