The Wheatsheaf

The Wheatsheaf was situated at 322 Eastfield Road. The original pub was an old cottage close to the present pub and was on the city boundary and in 1847 owned by Buckles Brewery. The existing building was built in 1914. The pub closed in the summer of 2019 while extensive work was carried out. It reopened September 2019 as a family friendly carvery and grill pub with new bar area and large screen TVs showing sport. However, it closed down again suddenly when the tenant left in January and has been boarded up ever since, having failed to reopen following the coronavirus lockdown. The pub is owned and leased out by Greene King. According to a local newspaper a Greene King spokesman said the company was currently (September 2020) advertising for a new tenant to take it over.

Permission has now been granted to demolish the pub and replace with social housing.
