Welcome Inn

The Welcome Inn was situated on the canal bank on Haven Road. It opened as The Haven Banks Inn in 1833 with the name changing to The Welcome Inn about 1854. It closed in April 1861 and was put up for sale as a large house, but was back as pub by the end of 1862. Between 1852 and 1900 several inquests were held at the Welcome Inn of people who drowned in the adjacent canal and river. In the early 20th century it was acquired by Devenish Brewery (Weymouth) and was a Devenish pub until the brewery closed in the 1980s. In April 2012 it became The Welcome Cafe and tea room.
