The New Inn was situated on Broad Street. This pub has now been subsumed into the grade-II listed Lion Hotel next door. It was present by 1841 when the publican was John John Horsford.
Listed building details:
The south-eastern part of the Royal Lion was formerly a separate establishment known as the New Inn and has not previously been listed. It has an early C19 front of 2 storeys 3 window bays. Cornice and parapet, the latter rising to form an angle above centre bay. The centre bay projects forward slightly and has a 3 centred arch to carriageway on ground floor, lst floor is roughcast; ground floor is stuccoed. Sash windows in reveals; glazing bars intact except for right hand ground floor window. Stuccoed archivolts to 1st floor windows. Ledged doors in carriageway. Long rear range of 2 storeys, of stone rubble, with guest rooms on 1st floor.
