The Criterion was situated at Framwellgate Bridge. This pub was known as the Puncheon from 1827 until c1915. It was demolished in the early 1970s and replaced by the nearby Coach & Eight.

My grandmother used to work there (1950s probably, before I was born). The landlady/ licencee was called "Mary Quant".
