The Bald Hind was situated on Hainault Road, having closed in February 2010.

This pub has now been demolished, with flats built on the site (see photo below).
Colin Price (September 2014)
In 1963/4/5 I ran Chigwell Folk Music Club there in their upper floor barroom. Capacity was about 100. We featured many (later to become famous) top class folk/blues artists. They included Richard Farina (later to marry Mimi Baez) and his then partner Caroline Hester. Carolyn was later signed to CBS Records in the States and had a best selling album featuring Bob Dylan. She also headlined at London’s Royal Albert Hall. Regular performers included UK blues legend Long John Baldry, Rory McEwan, Wally Wyton ( of ITV’s “Five O’Clock Club fame), Jacqui McShee (later to find fame with Pentagle), Martin Carthy, Redd Sullivan, Gerry Lochran, Pete Stanley & Wizz Jones ( top bluegrass performers) , Steve Benbow and many others. Loughton resident, Andy Howard was the resident performer. I also arranged for Joe Brown ( who was a Chigwell resident at the time) to record “Katerine” written by the pub landlord’s son , Pete Hunt. We later moved the club to The Mother Hubbard, Loughton.
Graham Wood (July 2017)
We first met at The Bald Hind , Chigwell and will celebrate our Diamond Wedding Anniversary on September 4th 2025. Sad to see this courting venue has been demolished. Remember joining Graham for chats with the star performers sometimes walking with them to the nearest tube station. Martin Carthy wrote a special anti-smoking song for a carnival float I designed and help build for Bethnal Green Council. I remember the hit line was "Whilst sailing round the tropic of cancer your feet feel like that of a ballroom dancer" We recorded the song at The Bald Hind but sadly the tapes have been lost.
