My regular pub was the Royal Oak about 200 yards
away on the green towards the Church. Many happy hours spent there with
other local lads, Philip, Leon et al.
During a return trip home from college in Leicester in winter 1976 shortly
after my Mum died I decide to try the PoW as none of my friends were about.
Ordered a pint from the barman who knew me from school, just about to sit
down with pint in hand when the Landlord called out, ’’we don’t want your
sort in here’’ The barman and I looked at him in amazement. His next words
were ‘’you’re barred’’
Still to this day don’t know why. Needless to say went back to the Royal Oak
for all future visits, before moving out of the area. |
