White Horse

I have a childhood memory of this pub, although I never went in it. To the left, you can see a brick wall, along the side of what was the access to the cark park at the rear. In the 60's and 70's, the words CAR PARK were painted, in big, white, roughly drawn letters, together with an arrow pointing to the rear, which was very visible when driving down the hill towards Bushey.
This pub went into decline some years ago, and was converted to residential. The wall was painted completely white, and you can now drive by the building without ever knowing that it used to be a pub.

My grandfather used to own this pub. It was sold when he died in the late 1960s. My grandfather (Chas Staines) was a member of the Eight Hours League and the pub was the HQ for a lot of their meetings with Tom Mann, the industrialist, so you could argue that it was the birthplace of the 40-hour week! I was last there in 2001 and it hadn't changed much inside according to my dad.
