The Crown & Dolphin was situated at 4
Kneesworth Street. |

My G-Grandfather, Francis [Frank] Chinn
after retiring from the London Police force moved to Royston, Hertfordshire
with his family and became proprietor of this The Crown and Dolphin is
believed to have originally formed part of the old Royal Buildings which
would have stretched the complete length of Kneesworth Street from the cross
to the green. The buildings themselves dated from the 1600's. After Frank's
death in 1902 his widow, Anne Maria, operated the pub until 1904. The inn
was demolished in the early 1920's and by the 1970's was occupied by a shop
known as "Kirkhams" adjoining Lloyds Bank Ltd. |
