Whilst Blackburn in the 70s and 80s was dominated by Thwaites and Matthew Brown pubs, The Leamington was one of a small minority of Whitbread pubs. This followed Whitbread's acquisition of the local Duttons Brewery. The pub was totally unremarkable - it had a snooker table and served such delights as Whitbread Trophy, Whitbread Tankard and Heineken Lager, which may help to explain its demise. East Lancs cricket ground was just a few minutes walk from the pub, which helped to provide trade in the days when Lancashire League cricket was very popular.

This pub is where my Dad was born in 1904. My Grandad George Avery was landlord and also played for Blackburn Rovers - 1884-1886.
