The Brown Cow was situated on the junction of Church Street
and Park Hill Road. The roundabout you see there is approximately where the
oldest known pub in Garstang used to be. The date 1685 was on the stone
lintel above the door of this pub, and it was reputedly built from the
plundered stone from Greenhalgh Castle. After closing it’s doors in 1903, it
became a grocers and bakers shop. Unfortunately it was destroyed by fire in
1931 and was subsequently demolished. |
