The Crown & Sceptre was situated at 84 Ben Jonson Road. This pub was present by 1881 and was also known as the ‘Jug House’ or ‘Jug Shop’ as it relied mostly on the take-away beer trade for home consumption.  By 1983 it had been acquired by the Shepherd Neame Brewery, but lack of trade forced closure in 1996.  It now serves as a fast food outlet.
