Prince Of Wales

Source: Ewan M

The Prince Of Wales was situated at 2 Grove Road. This pub was established as the Prince of Prussia by 1881.  The pub was tied to the fairly obscure London & Burton Brewery of Stepney and evidence of their ownership can still be seen on the pubsign arm which has ‘LBB’ worked into the iron.  The name of the pub was hastily changed to the Prince of Wales on the outbreak of the First World War.  By the 1940s, the pub had passed to Watney’s Brewery ownership.  It closed in 2005, by which time the building was in rather poor condition, after a spell when it was best known as a small, live music venue.  In 2010 the premises were decently restored and the former pub converted to restaurant use as the ‘Greedy Cow’.
