Royal Oak

The Royal Oak was situated at 83 Wilton Way. Publicans include 1964 George Stephens, 1966 George Buckingham, 1972 John Larkin.
This was a Watney’s Brewery pub, established by 1872.  It was best known as a gay venue in the 1980s and majored on disco nights.  The pub was acquired by Belhaven in around 1990 and almost inevitably closed soon afterwards, being converted to residential use.

This pub closed in 1997. My family and I converted it to residential accommodation  and lived in it from 1997 to 2002.
Reed Wilson (September 2011)
