Earl Of Warwick

The Black Bull was situated at 9 Beatty Road and is now used as flats.

I squatted in Beatty Road during 1984 and at that time we frequented many of the local pubs. However, the Earl of Warwick was not one of them as the whole community knew that it was the preferred drinking place of the local Constabulary. The Pub being a convenient 3 minute walk from the rear back door of the Police Station.

I used to live in Beatty Road from 1980-1982, first as student at the London school of pharmacy, and then as a pre-reg pharmacist at the Royal Free.
The Earl of Warwick was our local, but it took us a while to work out why last orders wasn't always called at 10.50, i.e., due to the police from Stoke Newington police station calling the shots. The pub was ok, but due to the patronisation of the police its customer base didn't reflect the local population of Stoke Newington. The Earl of Warwick is not a pub I miss particularly (it didn't have any character), compared to the Eliza Doolittle in kings cross, a pub tucked away from the Euston road, full of character and an interesting choice of music on the juke box.
