The Benyon Arms was situated at 155 De Beauvoir
Road. This pub closed in 1984 and is now in residential use. |

When I knew the pub it was in the hands
of an Irish landlord who was very keen on horseracing. He once said to
me,’You get three things in my pub: a good pint, a clean glass and
civility’. The perfect recipe! It was bought by Charles Wells and when the
old landlord left the rent was raised so high that the new couple couldn’t
manage. The old story. Demanding brewery accountants with no interest in
local communities. |
