My Grandparents were the licensees at The Queen
before moving to another Courage houseThe Rose & Crown on Kew Green. My mum
remembers two beautiful tiled fireplaces in the public & saloon bars
depicting what she remembers were Dickens like characters. She also
remembers 'the offy' in between the two bars. |

My grandparents Bob & Emily Pettet
owned & ran the pub for twenty years before retiring in 1988. Bob & Em
both worked behind the bar as well as my nan's sister Lil Chapman.
Regular customers I remember from the saloon bar were Jimmy, Davey &
Harry Green (brothers) & Ronnie Quick. |

Bobby Pettet was my Mum's cousin. We
lived 2 doors along at no.105. I remember walking the previous
landlord's dogs as a kid and spending a lot of time playing upstairs
although I can't remember who with. At weekends there was always a
winkle stall outside. The Public Bar was on the Sumner Road side, the
Saloon was on the other side of the Off Licence next to 103. 103 was a
chippy so as a late teen I had everything I needed at hand. |
