The Ivanhoe

The Ivanhoe was situated at 28 Ivanhoe Road.
This pub was known as Hoopers at time of closure in 2012. |
|
My grandparents managed this pub during WW2.
They retired to the south coast in 1949 and I have many memories of this
place. They ran a coach service amongst other things and it was always busy.
During the time of the flying bombs, everyone had to sleep on the cellar.
Sad it has now closed but just one of so many now. |

Art Baxter (of the Rock 'n' Roll sinners) used to

My grandparents, Joe and Kitty Bradbury,
lived at 14 Ivanhoe Road. The Ivanhoe was a big part of their life. My
Grandfather worked at Billingsgate but he was also a Bookies runner
based at the Ivanhoe. After my grandfather died my grandmother used to
go to the Ivanhoe everyday at lunchtime for her pint of Guinness and to
meet with several of her cronies, mainly elderly men. When I visited her
I always had to go into the Ivanhoe to find her! |
